Peri Luel has over 20 years of experience in the creation, acquisition and representation of sports and entertainment properties and is considered to be one of Canada’s foremost leaders in the world of sponsorship marketing. Steven Lewis boasts an extensive background in the negotiation and valuation of sponsorship rights, title rights and naming rights assets, international sports and entertainment law, and overall management of complex local and national experiential marketing, field marketing and sponsorship marketing programs. The agency is rounded out by over 30 experts on the focusing on sponsorship marketing strategy, experiential marketing execution and sponsorship sales and valuations through XMC’s Sponsorship Canada division.

Rounded out by a team of highly specialized and experienced sales professionals, XMC brings an ideal mix of resources to the rapidly expanding and ever-changing world of content needs for brand/corporations, professional and amateur sports governing bodies, venue owners, public institutions and film and television producers.

Principals

+ Peri Luel, CEO
Actively involved in the sports and entertainment marketing industry for 20 years, Peri has been responsible for the creation, development and funding of many innovative programmes.

Peri was previously Vice President of Molson Sports and Entertainment. While there, he led the development of all sports and entertainment marketing programs, and worked closely with a number of strategic partners for broadcast and live event properties, including the National Hockey League, the National Lacrosse League, and the Champ Car/Molson Indy in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. He also developed and helped Molson capitalize on a variety of initiatives including MTV SnowJam USA and the House of Blues concerts in Canada.

As an Executive Producer for Bell Making the Cut, Peri worked with Network Entertainment Inc. and CBC Television to create the $14-million landmark independent television production. In 2003, he was instrumental in staging the largest paid concert in Canadian history, Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto. With 500,000 people in attendance, it was the largest outdoor ticketed event in Canadian history, and one of the largest in the world.

Prior to his tenure at Molson, Peri was a Managing Partner for Jack Nicklaus’ Executive Sports International (ESI) Canada where, among other duties, he was involved with the management of PGA, LPGA and Senior events, while managing Canada's Olympic team program from 1996 through 2000. Executive Sports International Canada (ESI), a joint venture with legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. Prior, Peri was the Director Corporate Sales and Marketing for International Management Group (IMG Canada) where he developed and implemented numerous marketing programs and strategic partnerships. Throughout his career, Peri has developed and cultivated relationships with some of North America's most influential professional sports bodies, producers, marketers and talent. His ability to draw on this rich network of associates is, in part, what gives XMC its unparalleled flexibility and innovation.


+ Steven Lewis, President
Steven was most recently a Partner at Heenan Blaikie LLP, Canada’s largest sports and entertainment law firm. Specializing in all aspects of sports and entertainment contract negotiations, Steven focuses on financing vehicles, branded entertainment properties, production services arrangements, international co-productions, sponsorship marketing deals, endorsement contracts and consultation to U.S. and Canadian entertainment companies. His clients have included Twisted Pictures, Amberwood Entertainment, Franchise Pictures, Summit Entertainment, Constantin Film Development Corporation, Senator Entertainment, Simex, Serendipity Point Films, Don Carmody Productions, Sony Entertainment and Gold Circle Films.

Steven graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1988 and obtained his MBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business in 1990, where he was class president. In 1992, he was called to the Bars of the Province of Ontario and the State of New York. Steven is a frequent speaker and has presented to the Beverly Hills Bar Association’s Entertainment Law Section, Ryerson Polytechnic University’s School of Image Arts, the Banff World Television Festival, the National Screen Institute’s Features First Program and the American Conference Institute’s Entertainment Finance Forum. He is also the author of “Branded Entertainment and Product Integration: A Revolution in its Infancy” published in the American Bar Association’s Sports and Entertainment Lawyer, Winter 2006.


Project Management Team

+ Jeanette McFarlane, Vice President
Jeanette McFarlane is a seasoned marketer with over 15 years of experience across a variety of different disciplines in advertising and marketing.

With knowledge from both client and agency perspectives, Jeanette has built an impressive resume of projects ranging from brand strategy, creative development, promotional marketing, to sponsorship and event execution. Her history includes activation of such properties as the NFL, CFL, NBA, NHL, NLL and NASCAR in Canada, with an international debut at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney Australia. She spent several years driving the corporate sponsorship and fulfillment of the Bell Canadian Open and the Molson Indy in both Toronto and Vancouver.

Her love of sport and desire to win has allowed her to succeed with corporate giants such as Molson, Labatt, Unilever, SC Johnson and Mattel. More recently Jeanette entered into the field of fashion and music as a producer of the inaugural LG Fashion Fusion event with Maroon 5.

As Vice President at XMC, Jeanette is a dynamic catalyst of new ideas and new thinking. She motivates and coaches her team to push the envelope to surpass industry norms, and ultimately create bigger and better, experiential marketing programs. Jeanette is an avid soccer player, coach, licensed scuba instructor, snowboarding enthusiast, and a casual film maker.

+ Justine Rae, Vice President, Sponsorship Marketing
Justine is a senior marketing and sponsorship professional with over 13 years of experience developing strategies and innovative programming that drive business results. After graduating with her Honours Bachelor of Arts, Communication Studies from Queen’s University, Justine garnered an impressive list of professional training awards in business negotiation and new management from Schulich School of Business and Rotman’s Executive MBA program. Coupled with her studies, Justine’s extensive professional experience managing major national accounts and sports properties – including Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, Ottawa Senators, Molson Indy Toronto, Molson Indy Vancouver and SnowJam – and acting as a seasoned Sponsorship and Brand Manager at Molson Sports & Entertainment and Scotiabank, have positioned Justine as a leader in a fast-paced and highly competitive industry. She brings her proven abilities to XMC to effectively lead teams, identify and focus on key issues, make decisions and implement innovative and creative solutions that enhance brand building and experiential event executions.

Justine has also volunteered her time as a Sick Kids Hospital patient volunteer, and as a consultant to the HR Council Marketing Advisory Network and Stratford Unlimited Committee.

+ Tracey Luel, Vice President
Tracey is an experienced sports and entertainment professional having worked in the industry for over 15 years.  She graduated from the University of Western Ontario and joined Procter & Gamble in sales and management.  After several progressive sales and marketing management positions, Tracey joined the Score Golf (CCMC) management team and was responsible for creating the Women’s Golf Division, including a targeted magazine, television show and national executive women’s golf instruction/experience program in partnership with the Women of Influence. Tracey has consulted with the RCGA Women’s Division for several years, working to build national “grow the Game” initiatives. Two of these include “Golf Fore the Cure” for women and the “Girls Club” junior girls program; both still successfully growing. Tracey also works in the XMC consulting practice, focusing on brands requiring Experiential Marketing program creation expertise and activation planning. She has also taken an active role in developing corporate partnerships within GWN Dragon Boat, and has become an avid participant in Dragon Boat Racing herself!

+ Leanne Bernardo, Director, Field Marketing
Leanne Bernardo’s passion for brand marketing has been the impetus for the road less travelled – actually doing what you love as your career.  Leanne has participated in, managed and successfully executed numerous sports marketing and Experiential Marketing™ programs in Canada throughout the past decade.  Her dedication to experiential brand marketing is driven by her belief that in order to make a brand truly memorable, it must become relevant in consumers lives.

After graduating from the University of Western Ontario with an undergraduate business degree, and earning a post-graduate diploma in Sport Marketing and Event Management from George Brown College Leanne was employed as a Marketing Manager at one of the top golf courses in Canada, assisting in the creation of an internal agency earning incremental revenue for the club.  From here Leanne went on to manage national brand and corporate events for Molson Coors Canada, and then to Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium where she created and executed non-traditional media properties for the broadcast of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. 

Leanne is an avid cyclist, alpine skiier and self-proclaimed foodie who isn’t afraid to proclaim that she “loves the TTC!” A passionate and dedicated team player, Leanne contributes an intimate understanding of Experiential Marketing™, team leadership, brand strategy and results driven in-field activation to the XMC team. 


+ Nicole Ruta, National Field Marketing Manager
Nicole’s leadership skills are not only displayed through her professional career but also through her athletic career. Being a two year hockey captain at Dartmouth College in the NCAA, Nicole understands what it takes to lead a team.

After graduating from Dartmouth College, Nicole entered the marketing world as an On-premise and Special Events Manager, for Corona Canada (MMI), where she assisted in developing consumer-based promotions, as well as constructed, executed, and measured all national sponsorships. Nicole worked on a variety of special projects including: The RBC Canadian Open, The Rogers Cup, The Center of Gravity, Not So Pro Beach Volleyball, RCGA Golf Fore the Cure, and The Kenny Chesney Canadian Concert Tour.

Through her achieved knowledge both on and off the ice, Nicole is dedicated to create innovative Experiential Marketing™ strategies creating ways for brands to standout through the clutter of mass media.

After graduating from the University of Guelph with a B.Comm in Marketing Management, Caitlin has developed a working background in the advertising and marketing discipline.

With proven experience in administration, promotional sales, finance and marketing coordination from the trade show floor to the creative sponsorship agency level, Caitlin has developed a strong command of fast-paced event co-ordination and execution, program strategy and communication, creative development and ideation, staff supervision, sponsorship negotiations and partner communications.

Since joining XMC Sports and Entertainment, Caitlin has built a strong connection to sponsorship marketing and events coordination by bringing her positive and resourceful attitude and knowledge to the team. Caitlin helps support and creates innovative experiential marketing programs with major client accounts to strategically and effectively aid in developing for them new and effective brand advancement initiatives, while enhancing the standard of execution for all advertising, marketing and communications programs, and large scale events.

+ Kevin Walsh, Account Manager
Kevin draws from a comprehensive portfolio within the professional and amateur sport industry. Working with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League, he managed ticket sales, event staff and several key solutions for the club.

Most recently, Kevin managed the marketing and sport coordination for Ontario University Athletics, forging partnerships with Ontario universities and sport organizations, delivering a diversified sport model and developing turnkey multiplatform programs. Prime focus involved developing content, scripting, sponsorship and in-stadium activation for each broadcast of the University Rush television package live nationally on The Score Television Network. These efforts drew record television viewership and increased in-stadium attendance league-wide.

As a proven leader with demonstrated success, he has worked with several Canadian professional and amateur events, including; CFL Grey Cup, CIS Vanier Cup, OUA Yates Cup, Tim Horton’s Brier, and FIFA Under 20 Tournament.

A strong advocate for amateur sport in Canada, Kevin has dedicated much of his time to playing, organizing, and coaching sport

+ Drew Carroll, Director Brand Solutions
A vibrant leader, Drew is a results-driven professional whose charisma motivates all those around him. Often described as a ‘natural connecter’, Drew flourishes under the challenge of synchronizing a variety of individuals and their diverse marketing needs. He holds proven leadership and problem solving skills developed through a consistent record of coordinating multi-platform events by effectively managing people, projects and partnerships.

After graduating from the University of Kings College at Dalhousie in the Political Science and International Development discipline, Drew has been immersed in the sports industry. Upon graduation, Drew played a lead role in business development and client management with one of Canada’s foremost corporate hospitality firms. Since joining XMC in 2006, Drew has made a commitment to help define sports and entertainment marketing excellence by striving to create a positive and professional influence on both internal and external clients alike.

+ Jeff Beck, Manager, Business Development

Jeff is an enthusiastic sales professional with a proven history of leadership and results. He focuses on defining client needs, goals and objectives, as well as building and activating customized solutions. Jeff is a consummate professional with an unyielding aptitude for building and strengthening long lasting relationships and teams

A graduate of the Durham College Sport Management program, Jeff has been immersed in the sports and entertainment industry from day one. Working with some of the top sports and entertainment management firms in Toronto, Jeff has exceeded all ticket, corporate hospitality and sponsorship sales objectives.

Jeff comes to XMC with the knowledge and experience the he will use to build and maintain valuable relationships with both current and future clients.


+ Steve Moore, Director Brand Solutions

Steve Moore is a passionate sales professional with over seven years of consultative selling and marketing experience. He consistently strives to deliver an unparalleled level of professionalism and has experience working with two iconic global athletic brands, New Balance and Puma. For the past five years he has had the opportunity to hone his consultative selling approach working as an Account Manager in a business to business sales environment.

Steve joins the team, not only as a business professional, but also as an accomplished athlete, attending the University of Memphis, where he received  a running scholarship and competed as a NCAA division #1 athlete. After several year in the US, he returned to Canada to complete his Bachelor of Business Administration at The University of New Brunswick.

As a self-described open-minded, personable individual, he prides himself on  having a positive attitude and works to leverages these characteristics to foster relationships and build a supportive team environment.  He looks to surround himself with affirmative and passionate individuals that will motivate him on a daily basis and aims to build strong relationships that will facilitate business development and allow for both professional and personal growth. 

He is an avid runner and cyclist with  a keen interest in all sports and greatly enjoys annual trips to Bogotá, Colombia to visit his extended family; Spanish fluency is a work in progress.
